Are you aware that one individual organ donor can save or improve the quality of life for more than 50 people who suffer organ failure, congenital defects, bone cancer, orthopedic injuries, burns or blindness?

If you have a desire to donate organs and tissues at death, then you must make your wishes known to your family. Far too often, and despite the decedent’s stated intentions, organ and tissue donations do not occur because the immediate family members present at the time of death refuse to consent. Without that consent, few medical care providers will act based on a donor card or driver’s license authorization.

In addition to discussing your decision with your family, you should express your desire to become an organ donor by indicating it on your driver’s license and carrying an organ donor card. There are no age limits for becoming a donor and medical suitability will be determined at the time of death.

We don’t want that to happen to you.

Take the time to assess your estate planning goals and make sure that your documents and beneficiary designations are in order. If you already have a will or other estate planning documents that may need updating, please give us a call to discuss your needs.
